AIX Atape driver upgrade

On NIM Server
  • Look on your nim server where are located new drivers fileset :
root@nimserver# ls .../TapeLib_Driver
.toc                Atape.11.2.9.0.bin  Atape.11.7.6.0.bin  atldd.6.7.7.0.bin   atldd.6.8.4.0.bin

  • Have a look on your exportable filesystem :
root@nimserver# exportfs
.../nim/tl      -sec=sys:none,rw
.../nim/os      -sec=sys:none,rw
.../nim/sp      -sec=sys:none,rw
.../nim/distrib -sec=sys:none,rw
.../nim/mksysb  -sec=sys:none,rw
.../nim/lpp     -sec=sys:none,rw


On OS to upgrade
  • Mount distant filesystem :
# mount nimserver:.../nim/distrib /mnt

  • Check if driver can be updated :
# lslpp -L | grep -i atape
# lslpp -L | grep -i atldd

  • If version if minor to your new version you can upgrade !
  • Go on distant filesystem :
# cd /mnt/TapeLib_Driver

  • Use smit to install your new fileset :
# smit install

  • Follow menu to install new fileset.
  • You have to reboot your server after new fileset installation :
# shutdown -Fr

  • Once rebooted, check if new drivers are ok :
# lslpp -L | grep -i atape
# lslpp -L | grep -i atldd


You're done.
